Makawao update

Well we had a good transfer week. Made some progress with a few of our newer investigators and also had some good visits with the members of the bishopric.

We are having a tough time with some of our less-actives. We're just not getting much commitment from anyone right now. But even with all of that, we can still see the Lord's hand in His work, and we are able to have quality lessons every week.

We were also able to contact a media referral, and she actually wanted the Book of Mormon! That doesn't happen too often on the first try ;)! She told us that she has family that are members and that she is open to learning more about our church. So hopefully we can have a chance to help her learn from the spirit.

All is well here in Makawao. We get choke rain everyday, everywhere we go. Every week I love the Makawao Ward more and more. There are wo many great people here. Elder Batac is doing good over here. Very nice kid from the Philippines.

Hope everyone is having a great memorial day!

Love you all!

Yeah that saying really doesn't have anything to do with what I have to share today. I just found a really cool quote book in the apartment today and that was the first quote I read. So yeah. LOL

I have a new companion! And he's so awesome! His name is Elder Lindahl and he's from Colorado. Super nice guy. His Chinese is great, and his testimony is greater. He and I are going to be seeing a lot of success here in the blessed land of Long Tan. He's super funny, and he is so dedicated to the work. Him and I actually started a new thing trying to improve our morning work outs because I'm super unhealthy right now. He's into working out and stuff, so we went SO hard this morning. I about died! haha It's good stuff though, I'm gonna be

shaped up in no time. And somehow that will reflect into our missionary work. I believe it!

At the transfer meeting I got to see a lot of great friends, it was really nice! One more transfer and President and Sister Day head home. It's really sad, but I've been so blessed to serve with such great leaders.

This past week, Elder McClellan and I did a lot of finding again, trying to build up the area before one of us moved out. Didn't find too much luck due to the buckets of rain. Absolutely pouring for the past couple of days. Love it. It does make finding a little

difficult, but I love the rain.

Friday, Saturday, and yesterday, Elder Lindahl and I started out the transfer with tons of finding. We met a lot of great people and might even find some good investigators out of them. So we're hoping and praying for that.

Honestly I don't really know what else to tell besides I'm loving life right now. I'm becoming closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ day by day. I've been feeling the spirit stronger, and it's incredible! I LOVE this work!

HUGE Shout out to my boy Set-Daddy! Happy Birthday this Saturday Pops! love you tons Dad. Don't eat too much cake!

I love you all! have a great week!

Tonight!

Rice fields on the way home from SK's house
One of our investigators got baptized on Saturday night! Yeah, it was random for me as well! His name is SK and he is the one that came to our ward on his own a couple of weeks ago. We have been able to teach all of the lessons and get him prepared by Saturday. His original date was for May 30, but because he felt so prepared, and we felt like he was prepared, we decided to move his date one week forward. We asked him, "What time next Saturday would be best for you?" He looked at us with a very confused look on his face, then we could almost see the light bulb go off above his head. "Tonight!" My companion and I looked at each other like what? Then we called the zone leaders, and they gave us the thumbs up. We got everything figured out. SK drove a couple of cities over for his baptismal interview, turned right around back to Long Tan and got baptized all before 8:00. It was a very crazy day. Miracles happen though!

The rest of the week was really great! I'm still kind of on a rush from talking to you guys last Monday. That was so great! The Temple was also amazing. Such a beautiful Temple. Taipei is such a busy place, and the Temple is sort of hidden in the center of it all. As soon as you step on the grounds of the temple, it's as if you're stepping into a bubble, away from the whole world. It is literally the happiest place on earth. Sorry Disneyland. It was such a refreshing feeling though. I hadn't been for over five months (since the MTC), so it was really nice to feel surounded by the spirit.

Taipei 101
After the Temple, we had the day in Taipei for our P-Day. We went and got lunch at this place called Cozy Burger. It was pretty cozy, and they sold burgers. Nice. It was pretty good. Then we went to Taipei 101. It has the fastest moving passenger elevator. We got to the 89th floor in about 20 sec. It was a really clear day, so we could see all of Taipei from the top. So awesome.

On Thursday, we were doing our weekly planning in a room on the main floor of our apartment building. We were discussing some of our goals and plans for the week when a lady walked in and said, "Will you please give me some information on your Church?" My companion and I immediately froze. Then we snapped out of it and shuffled through our papers looking for tracts to give her. We were so taken off gaurd. She mentioned to us that her husband had passed away last October and she has been looking for a church to join since then. We set up an appointment and we'll be meeting with her soon! As soon as she walked out of the room My companion and I said a prayer of thanks. It was very interesting that after a whole lot of finding and a whole lot of "no thank you", somebody found us! It really humbled me to know that the Lord keeps His promises and he will ALWAYS provide.

I've been rellying too much on myself lately, and not enough on the Lord. I conviced myself we were going to find somebody from doing everything on my own. When in reality, you must rely on the Lord. You must have Faith that His spirit will guide you to the perfect place, at the perfect time, to meet the prepared person. I'm grateful that the Lord is merciful, and even when I lose Faith, he allows me to repent and become better. I feel his hands every day in my life!

Yesterday was pretty awesome. Sunday's are always my favorite day of the week. Martin came back to church! It was so great to have him there with us. SK got
confirmed, and we also had our recent convert Sister Liang there, who hasn't been able to come for a while because of work. It was so awesome to see all of them at church. Last night, we went to a ward family night. It was super fun, but really exhausting because all of the little kids were jumping all over me!

Shout out to Mica and Dad for putting in some good work at the State and National tournaments. Sad to hear you guys didn't quite take the national title, but I am happy to hear you guys had loads of fun! I'm sure next year you guys will have a solid team. It's so weird to think the boys have one week left, then they're out for summer! It feels like only a few months ago I graduated from high school, now I'm on my mission! Time continues to fly.

I hope you guys all have a great week this week!

Love and miss you all!

Aloha everyone

So transfers are this week and as far as we know elder Mitchell will be leaving and I will be getting Elder Batac.

Things in Makawao are going great, we are slowly moving along with our few investigators and really starting to work with the ward to see and meet new people. Yesterday we went out with Brother Savou and met a good number of new less actives that we can now go back and see.

Can't wait to see what is in store for the next transfer! Lots of investigators that should have things open up now that the summer is here. The next two weeks will be tough with graduation and stuff like that, but we will make it work.

Congrats to Mica and the United boys on the good run at nationals. Always tough when you can't come home with the big one but keep working and let it fuel you. Love you all!

Aloha!

Quick update

NOTE: Late post from Elder Chase Matua after last weeks Mother's Day Skype session:

I only have a short time to do so I'll be fast.

First off, I was SO happy talking to you guys [for mothers day] and Kingston! It made me so happy and I have pretty much been on Cloud-9 ever since.

The temple this morning was amazing. It is such a great temple! Happiest place on Earth!
There's so much to tell you guys, but such little time, and honestly I don't even know where to begin so you'll just have to wait until October 2016 to hear about these past couple of weeks haha. Just know I'm doing great! I am loving life. Taiwan is amazing. You guys are amazing!

Love you all!

Working hard in Maui

On the road to Hana
Sorry for the late email today, we woke up early for a special p-day trip. We drove out to Hana. Man there were some beautiful views throughout the drive. Great adventure! We even got to stop by the chapel in Hana that the branch uses.

The rest of the week was great. We were able to pick up some solid new investigators, all through member referrals (that is the best way to do things wink wink). Hope all of you are getting involved in you member missionary work haha!

Me and Snell from A.F.
We had choke service on Saturday and an exchange, I was with
Elder Snell from AF! So I got to sleep at Pulehu chapel. That is an awesome place. On Wednesday we did walking Wednesday. I think we easily walked 12 miles the whole day. I have mad respect to all you elders that walk and ride bikes. I am also grateful for the nice air conditioned car the we are blessed with. Heavenly Father really does know me, He knew that I would complain every day for two years if I had to walk all the time haha!

This upcoming week should be a good one. We hope to make some progress with our current investigators and also continue to expand our pool.

Congrats to the BYU boys on another win and good luck to dad, Mica, and the United boys as they go through their post season.

Love you all so much!!

This email is gonna be short, because I'm Skyping you guys next week. So sorry about it.

Lots and lots of tracting this week. No meeting with Martin because he had some testing to get ready for and take care of. People take school v
My buddy Elder Nasman, our
Zone Leader from Sweden
ery seriously here! but we're hoping to meet with him next week!

We met with Ace on Saturday. He really wasn't progressing at all. However our meeting with him changed that! Saturday night, we got a text from him and he thanked us very much for visiting him. He told us he is going to read the Book of Mormon more diligently and pray harder. He told us he will Jia You (add oil) or try harder. I am confident he is going to make his baptismal date at the end of the month!

It started pouring!
Yesterday we met a super golden investigator. During Sacrament meeting, we noticed a guy we didn't recognize. Nobody knew who he was, so we went up to him, talked to him for a bit, and set up an appointment with him that night. Turns out he's not a member and he's been to church three times on his own. Twice in a different ward, and once at ours. Our meeting last night with him was awesome! He was eating up the stuff we taught him. We set a baptismal date with him, and he is seems very excited to be baptized.

So as you can tell, this work is incredible. It's super hard, definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it's quite rewarding. It has it's shining moments that outweigh everything else!

This week was a good one!

Again sorry this is so short! I still love you guys! So glad to hear Dad is alive and safe and healthy and all that good stuff. Good look with this week of rugby!

Love you all
